That's what Neena calls it anyways. Me? Well, I like to call it my "trying not to get us killed in traffic" face! :D

Wow, what a week of encouragement! In the last 6 days we've received not 1, but 2 care packages! It was really, really awesome to see the Father's timing with these things, as we've been dealing with more stresses than usual lately. And what an incredibly tangible reminder that we are truly loved and cared for by soooooo many! Thank you guys... thank you for taking the time (and spending the resources) to put a smile on our faces, warm baked goods in our bellies, and joy in our hearts! We love and miss you all beyond words, and we look forward to thanking you all face to face, eventually :D

Note: Thanks for the inclusion of the Colgate along with all the chocolaty sugar-filled goodness... It will help us feel slightly better about stuffing our faces with brownies!

Though their flight arrived at 2:30am it was still an incredibly joyous occasion to welcome back our dear friends the K's. They were able to get all their work and visa issues sorted out without incident, so praise the Father! Though it was a loooooong month without them, we're already making up for lost time via hangin' out :D

A clip I'd forgotten about, of a man up north doing some incredibly intense stitching! Yeah, he's bad! :D

I've realized (again) that after being here for a year, things really no longer strike me as "odd" like they once did. It wasn't until walking past this spot 3 times in the same day that it hit me -wait a minute, that's not "Western normal" (as I've been referring to it lately)! So I got out my phone and took some "snaps."

I recently decided to turn a hanging room (for laundry, of course) into a new, awesomely manly, work area. Since the cost of having someone else build furniture here is rather expensive, but the raw lumber is often cheap, I decided it would be great to build some of it myself. Now, this isn't because I'm a professional or anything, but more because of my recent knee issues. I feel like this gives me another way to stay active, and productive, without so much walking or stress on my knees. It also has the wonderful tendency of making me feel like I've accomplished something in the midst of perpetual language and culture learning. Anywho, the first project was a workbench (of course) that turned out wonderful; thanks in large part to the help of my dear friend Sahul, who did most of the on-the-ground/kneeling necessary -what a blessing his help was! We filmed some of the building, and I'm putting together a time-lapsed video of it. Hopefully, I'll be posting it soon.

...especially when your waiting in line to pay a bill :D

Update: After a good friend astutely commented that "he didn't get it" I figured I should clarify. Normally this room is PACKED, from wall to wall, with people. So, when you see all these empty chairs there's only two possibilities. 1) They're closed (which is clearly not the case… because I'm inside). 2) You've gotten there so extremely early that you're the first in line, in hopes of avoiding the normal several hour wait. In this case, it was the 2nd possibility -YEAH!

  • So, I guess they're closed today...

Neena went to our usual spot for fruit this morning, only to find something had obviously changed. Where there once were delicious apples and oranges, now a strange black and green fruit rested. Rumor around the corner was that the vendor must have overslept, and that things would be back to "normal" momentarily. Whew, good to know... I was beginning to wonder how you'd even prepare this thing! :D

We recently got to celebrate a special birthday with Samil, our watchman's son. He was beyond excited to show off his new t-shirt, and offer us some cake. The offering of cake, more like feeding of said cake, is a common tradition at things like birthdays and weddings here. It was so cute to see Samil, with his cake/chocolate covered hands, offer each of us a big bite... it was a wonderful mess!
